WEEK 5 RE-CAP
The last undefeated team falls, and a couple of hot teams extend winning streaks. Here’s how it all went down on Canadian Thanksgiving weekend in the ICLAFF…
It was another thriller on the lake between the STAND ALONE AMERICAN and CRYSTAL LAKE SLASHERS. With hopes of getting out to a big lead the Slashers had 3 players in action on Thursday night, but with the Washington Defence going backwards for -5 they were only able to total up 12 points. Glen’s Philly combination of Jalen Hurts and D’Andre Smith picked up the slack on Sunday netting 44 points between them, and it was great to see Cooper Kupp back and contributing for Crystal Lake putting up 20 in his return. Glen held a 92-69 lead at the end of action Sunday afternoon. Rick’s only shot at catching up, would all come down to what RB Christian McCaffrey and newly acquired WR Deebo Samuel could do against the Cowbitches in prime time. They chipped away at the 23 point lead through the first half, then with a little over 9 minutes left in the third quarter, Brock Purdy connected with Deebo Samuel over the middle for a 42 yard pass to take the lead, and the match! Rick rebounds from a demoralizing loss in Vegas last week, with an incrediable come from behind 94-92 win… stunning the Slashers at home.

The Bundy Bowl rematch between STRAIGHT OUTTA COUGHLIN and 3RD AND LONG did not disappoint! This match was close… with neither brother being able to pull out to lead by more than just a few points all Sunday afternoon. Ryan got a big day once again from Tyreek Hill who had 32, and Jarred Goff who put up 27. Matt lost two key players to injury early in games - James Conner and Tank Dell, which always sucks in fantasy football. Despite this, the rest of SO-CO’s lineup still put up decent numbers and when Travis Kelce scored late in the 3rd quarter against the Vikings, it looked like they were going to come away as the winner… but then Jerry Jeudy, Samaje Perine, and Tyler Conklin all made big plays for 3&L within the last six minutes of the Jets / Broncos game, stealing the rematch! They won’t be handing out a trophy and rings after this one, but it appears for the time being that Ryan gets the payback over his brother he was looking for.

The match between the LAS VEGAS SUN WORSHIPERS and MARC’S FUNKY BUNCH got out of hand quickly… I mean it was ugly. This ass whopping began early over on the other side of the pond where the London Janguars got it done over Buffalo - and Travis Etienne Jr was a beast for Marc, finding the end zone twice and scoring 36 points. Then the story for the Bunch in the 1pm games was TE Dallas Goedert who also scored a couple touchdowns and cashed in 26. Those two players alone had enough points to beat the Worshipers whose scoring troubles continue. Alvin Kamara was the only bright spot in an otherwise dreadful lineup where every other player was kept under 10 points. This is the second time Rich has scored under 60 points as a team this season, and I’m starting to pickup on a pattern - both lacklustre efforts came on weeks that the Cowbitches had big losses, a trend we’ll have to keep an eye on. This one ends with a 143-57 final score, an embarrassing 86 point beat down. The Bunch get it done at home to win their second straight match!

It was also a blowout on Forest Park Drive. HOOKED ON A THIELEN was dominant against J-OSHAWA ALLEN in a 166-81 victory. Over in London Shwa’s star quarterback put up 28 fantasy points in a losing effort, but no one else stepped up for Mike and that wasn’t going to do against Mr. Mitchell’s stacked lineup. Boy oh boy, things are getting tense in The Shwa and it’s starting to feel a lot like last year. This 73 point loss is now their third in a row and fans are starting to sense another season slipping away. What can Mike do to stop the bleeding? On the other side Don had been waiting all season for Jmaar Chase to open up, and boy did he ever this week! He tallied the most points of any player so far this season with 52… he was just 5 points shy of out scoring the Sun Worshipers by himself (sorry Rich). Hooked-T has really been putting up some big numbers of late, they’ve scored 311 in the last two weeks and now have 626 points for the season, more than anyone else in the ICLAFF. That’s quite impressive Dad, I must say.

Looking to stay undefeated and defend their first place position, PURDY GOOD hosted ERIC’S E-ALLS. Shawn struggled all week trying to decide who he should start under centre in place of Justin Herbert who was on a bye. I joked about him having to start Sam Howell… and well, maybe he should have. Instead he settled for Zach Wilson’s 9 points while Howell scored 26 points on his bench, where his other backup QB Desmond Ridder also scored 25. The Eazy E’s were dominant this week thanks to Russel Wilson’s 19 and Deandre Hopkins 22 points, but the real damage to Shawn’s lineup was done by one of his own favourites - George Kittle who scored a hat trick for Eric, three touchdowns and 28 points. The Double E’s are back in first place after another impressive 118-83 win. His Niners might still be undefeated, but Shawn’s fantasy football team is not. Looks like he’s also lost his biggest asset Justin Jefferson, so now we’ll really get to see what Purdy Good is made of.

The OTTAWA ROSS RIDERS kept it rolling in the Battle of Ottawa against the DARTH RAIDERS. Ross got an explosive start on Thursday night when Bears RB DJ Moore reached 31 points by just the second quarter… he would eventually finish with 3 touchdowns and 230 receiving yards for 49 points. In the same game, Cutis Samuel put up 19 for Howie, and QB Justin Fields had a breakthrough performance - but unfortunately his 33 points from the D-Raiders bench didn’t count. The Riders were up big going into the Sunday primetime game, where only a 35 point night by Josh Jacobs could save Howie. For the second straight week Jacobs scored in the 20’s, but it just wasn’t enough for him to catch his nephew as the D-Raiders lose in a high scoring shootout, 139-124. Ottawa could now be the hottest team in the ICLAFF, scoring 419 points in their 3 straight wins. Ross is literally on fire, here’s a shot of him below leaving the stadium after the victory…
