WEEK 6 RE-CAP
A big shocker, some winning streaks get extended, and a nail biter to decide first place. It was another interesting week in the ICLAFF, and here’s how it all went down…
In a stunning upset, STRAIGHT OUTTA COUGHLIN takes down first place ERIC’S E-ALLS - and it was a huuuuuge blowout! Matt puts up the second most points ever in a single week, and smashes the Double E’s 168-78 in one of the most decisive wins in our league so far. There’s been only 6 times in ICLAFF history that a team has scored over 165 points in a week…. and Straight Outta Coughlin has now done it 4 times, 3 times already this season in each of their wins. SO-CO cashed in 103 points in the Dolphins/Panthers game alone - headlined by Mostert’s 34, and Thielen’s 29. Eric did not look like a first place team at all on Sunday, struggling from almost every spot in the lineup - Hopkins was completely shutdown in London, and Kittle was a ghost this week earning just a single point. His only bright spots didn’t come until Monday night when Pollard and Allen eventually put up decent numbers, but by the time that game kicked off they were already down by 129 points. The E’s will need to get over this loss quickly, they host a desperate J-Oshawa Allen team at home next week. What a statement win by the defending champs who are now 3-3, and have more total points than anyone in the league with 774.

It was the game of the week between PURDY GOOD and 3RD AND LONG, and it came right down to the wire. After a slow start Thursday night and in the morning London game, these two 4-2 teams exchanged blows all afternoon on Sunday. Going into Monday night’s finale Ryan led Shawn 97-85, and Eric was so far behind that they both knew the winner here would take over first place. Each team had just one player to go - RB Austin Ekeler for Ryan and QB Justin Herbert for Shawn. PG cut the lead to just 4 points with 8 minutes left in the game… but then on a 4th and goal, Herbert threw a game tying touchdown to Everett to bring them within a point and a half. After Dallas went down and kicked a field goal to go ahead in the game, the Chargers got the ball back and another short pass by Herbert cut 3&L’s lead to just 1.24 at the two minute warning. Then… with the match in his hands, Herbert stepped back into the pocket and under pressure threw an interception, ending the game and crushing Shawn’s hopes of a comeback. Purdy Good falls for the second straight week, and 3rd & Long takes over top spot in the ICLAFF hanging on for the 3 point win!

The LAS VEGAS SUN WORSHIPERS took on J-OSHAWA ALLEN in a rematch of last year’s Toilet Bowl. KC’s defence gave Mike a good start Thursday night scoring 16, but then on Sunday morning kicker Justin Tucker brought Rich and the Worshipers back. He had 3 field goals and 13 points by the half and finished with 19, proving his worth as their “franchise player”. Mike battled back to take a 89-67 lead after Sunday, but on Monday night Rich’s Cowbitch connection of Prescott and Lamb came up big for Vegas scoring 50 points along with the Dallas D. The Worshipers put up a season high 117 points and pickup the win to move out of the ICLAFF basement! The free fall in The Shwa continues… that’s now 4 losses in a row. People across the city were not thrilled when they got the results. And, no… this is not a dated clip. It’s actually what computers still look like in most offices in the greater Oshawa area.

The CRYSTAL LAKE SLASHERS put up their season high in points when they picked up a much needed win over the DARTH RAIDERS. Howie got all but one of his players into double digits this week, but no one could break through that 20 point mark and together as a lineup they found the end zone just 3 times. That wasn’t going to be enough to keep pace with Glen this week, who’s offence finally opened up and put up some big numbers. His big stars played like big stars - Cooper Kupp lit it up for 28, Jalen Hurts scored 20, and D’Andre Swift chipped in 18. In convincing fashion, The Slashers come to the Death Star and escape with their second win. The D-Raiders fall to 1-5 and are now in dead last… they’ll be looking forward to getting their revenge when they meet again for their Week 12 rematch in Crystal Lake. The Slashers come up big on Friday the 13th weekend with an important 137-98 victory!

Two teams were looking to pickup their 4th win of the season when MARC’S FUNKY BUNCH took on HOOKED ON A THIELEN in what turned out to be the second closest match this week. Hooked-T got solid performances by Kyren Williams (22) and Ja’Marr Chase (14), but was let down by Kirk Cousins and Rachaad White. Last week Don’s team scored 9 times, this week he only celebrated 2 touchdowns all weekend long. Amon-ra St. Brown had another outstanding week for Marc with 30 points, while Trevor Lawrence and Travis Etienne Jr shared 38. The Bunch led 105-86 before Sunday Night Football where Stefon Diggs made it close for Don with his 20 points against the G-Men… but it wasn’t enough to catch Marc. He picks up his third win a row, 112-106. Something very exciting is starting to happen in Funky Town… The Bunch are rolling!

The STAND ALONE AMERICAN was looking for his second straight win when he battled the OTTAWA ROSS RIDERS in Canada’s capital city. Ross’ team has been so hot lately even his kicker is contributing, scoring 18 points Thursday night to get him off to a great start. In London, the Ravens’ defence found a way to stop King Henry in the first half - but then he broke through in the second, eventually scoring 19. Later that afternoon AJ Brown scored 20 and Kennith Walker III had 18, as Ross continues to get scoring from everywhere in his lineup. For the 2nd straight week Breece Hall was great for the Lone American scoring 20, and LeMar put up 17 overseas - but Rick’s chances of pulling this match out pretty much ended when his two San Francisco weapons - McCaffrey and Samuel - both went down with injuries and had to leave the game early. That is just too heavy a blow to overcome when facing a stacked team like this. The Riders score over 120 points again, and take their fourth in a row… they’re still the hottest team in the league! Rossco is feeling so good about his fantasy team these days that when he wakes up in the morning and looks in the mirror, this is what he sees…
